Feather Dictation ("we," "our," or "us") provides a Windows desktop application for voice-to-text dictation and translation. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Information you provide:

Email address — collected at checkout so we can deliver your license key and contact you about your purchase.

Information created when you use the app:

License key — generated after purchase and stored in our database, linked to your email.
Credit balances and usage amounts — we track how many audio seconds and translation characters your license has used and has remaining. This is required to operate the credit system you purchased.

Payment information:

Payments are processed entirely by Stripe. We never see, collect, or store your card number or payment details. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

What We Do NOT Store

Your audio is never saved. Audio you dictate is processed in memory, sent to our transcription provider, and discarded immediately after your text is returned. It is never written to a database, file, or log.
Your text is never saved. Transcribed text and translated text are returned to you and discarded. We store only a character count for billing purposes — never the content itself.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Service Providers (Subprocessors)

To provide the service, your data passes through the following providers during processing:

OpenAI (Whisper) — audio you dictate is sent to OpenAI's API for transcription. See OpenAI's API data usage policies.
DeepL — text you choose to translate is sent to DeepL's API. See DeepL's Privacy Policy.
Stripe — payment processing. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Resend — used to send your license key email after purchase.
Railway — hosts our server and database infrastructure.

Data Retention

We retain your email, license key, and credit balance information for as long as your license is active, so that your purchased credits remain available to you. If you would like your information deleted, contact us at the email below. Note that deleting your license information will permanently deactivate your license and any remaining credits.

Your Rights

You may contact us at any time to:

Request a copy of the information we hold about you
Correct your email address
Request deletion of your information

Depending on where you live (for example, California or the European Union), you may have additional rights under local law. We will honor valid requests consistent with applicable law.

Children's Privacy

Feather Dictation is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
